No like seriously, last Wednesday I flew out to Dallas with my sister on a whim.

No plans, just gone. The flight was ridiculously cheap so we booked and made it happen.

Dallas is huge but we flew into Love Field airport and stayed in the dowtown Galleria district like 2 blocks away from The Galleria mall at the Hyatt Place. The staff was very pleasant and attentive. In the same so were most of those who resided in Texas. In fact every time that someone said “I’m sorry, Pardon me” with a smile on their face I felt guilty for them being so apologetic. You have to figure I live technically in New England and Tri-state so manners don’t exactly stumble out or in context.

So what did we do?

The Dallas Museum of Art:

Culture. I breath it. Museums happen to be a past and future joy of mine so I jumped at the opportunity of this museum especially to find out that it was F-R-E-E. Parking at the museum is $12 but we also found street parking a block away where we paid 25 cents for an hour. We just so happened to go on the perfect day which was a Thursday where the museum is open until 9pm and there are a few extra exhibits available as well as a live small orchestra playing the calmest of tunes.

The exhibit which we spent a lot of time in was The Arts of Africa displaying some of the most priceless pieces from centuries beyond. The curators did an amazing job with all of the exhibits with displaying and informing of their existence.

Creative Connections, you will not find art like this as they are one of kind created by… You. This area was exciting encouraging all to create their own and connect with others with even a make a piece of art take a piece of art area.

Not bad right?

Hyena’s Comedy Night Club of Plano:

Friday nights tend to be my fave f word thrown out there once again, F-R-E-E!! (Permitted that you do the comedy club norm and purchase 2 items of course). This particular night the headliner was Slade Ham who we previewed online and got a few chuckles out of us. Slade didn’t fail us at the comedy show. Even with a young annoyance who for whatever reason felt the need to make the show about herself, Slade you held it down.

Go Karts!!: One simply doesn’t go to Texas and not get a fake taste of Texas motor speedway in some form! We had a blast, even if I had the slowest car. Ugh.

Hey Sister!
Looks like someone had quite the fun to have thought that it was a juvenile idea. One is never too old for go karts Shade Queen! Her first and likely not last experience.

Dallas Fattastic Festivities:

The Original Pancake House: For my CT foodies, this place would give Chip’s a run for a lot less next to none. The eggs were unlike any that I have tasted and it could have been the southern freshness but the pancakes were nothing shy of fresh and fluffy for under $6! Hungry off of the plane, this was quite the treat especially from a chain.

Ms. Daisy’s Fish and Cajun: In the mood for some good southern seafood, we found this place around the corner from our stay and the fish and shrimp were on point. My sister and I agreed that we could have done without the sides and the abundance of pepper but the seafood was worth the try. The highlight was interacting with the waiter who very politely asked us to try Mexican candy as a part of his school experiment and although very friendly was certainly the ice breaking experience. NBF disapproval but you know that I try just about anything edible.

Sweet Georgia Brown’s: “Oh you have to go to the hood for some good food”- Derrick our wonderful Uber driver by the way of DC suggested this place in all its deliciousness. Keep in mind the hood in the south is not the same as other places but it was a bit of a drive but worth it to me. For $8 I ordered the veggie plate for $8 with the choice of 3 sides and cornbread. First Lady of the church anniversary worthy food folks.

Moe’s Southwest Grill: I know that this is a universal language in restaurants but I’m really unsure as to why this was my first time trying their food even amongst Chipotle and Qdoba which I have had the pleasure of also indulging in. I’m pretty certain that by this being my first experience in the south west will not provide the same results back home but I may try it anyway.

Pepe’s and Mito’s Mexican Café: Now you know that it would be unheard of not to try Tex Mex in Texas!! Located in Deep Ellum, what a wonder. I tried the Friday special which was tilapia with a side salad, rice and beans. I can’t tell you where I began in this dish but it was worth every bite in ending this Dallas food grubbery.

Daiso Japan: Completely random but I made it my complete business to find a Daiso which is a Japanese Dollar store (Although most items are $1.50) that we have nowhere near us in CT. I know, what is the big deal? I have viewed numerous of hauls and had to experience it for myself. Some may find it to be a waste of time but it was a cute store with cute items.

Pause…I love Hi-Chews! My go to Japanese candy. They are similar to starburst with a more chewy texture and a mouth full of awesome flavors.

I couldn’t go home Daiso-less. I purchased a bag hook, Hi-chew bites which I tried for the first time, a bling stylus which is stored in the headphone jack, 2 travel size perfume holders,an iPad holder, an eyebrow pencil, brown sugar ginger tea and chopsticks. I am ramen ready ya’ll.

NBF Final thoughts: I must say, Dallas did not make my top favorite places to travel list but we sure made the best of it. The people are very kind though and I was slightly disappointed to find out that we just missed the Texas State Fair but from the looks and sounds of things, it is similar to New England’s Big E fair but bigger of course. After all this is Texas.

The Galleria Mall has an ice skating rink in the middle of the mall! Different.
