Feed in braids out. Hair stretched. Wash day. What do I use?

Dove’s Advanced Hair Series line is something which I have eyed for a short period of time. Being a woman with hair that is curly but course the Quench Absolute made the most sense as it is designed for women with curly coarse hair so I purchased the shampoo and conditioner.

(Left: conditioner. Right: shampoo)

Reading into what the products allegedly have to offer, Quench Absolute mentions that naturally dry hair needs “effective nourishment” and as a result add nutrients, protein and buriti oil to combat 5 key problems of “textured” hair. I am really unsure about how I feel about the word textured but I am willing to hear what you mean by that Dove. Quench absolute suggests that their product line will:

  1. “Quench dry hair”
  2. “Strengthen the shaft of the hair”
  3. “Improve the manageability of hair”
  4. “Smooth the surface of the hair’s fiber surface”
  5. “Lock in nutrients by sealing the hair cuticles”

That is a lot to promise but I shall dive in to investigate.

The aroma gives me a vibe of honey or Shea butter mixed in a mild perfume but not overbearing. I did not receive the floral sweet scent which is often given by many other shampoos and conditioners.

My hair was in a dry state during both experiences with the Quench Absolute line.

With Shampoo:

The curls instantly revived and did not have that crispy feeling that some shampoos give off to you hair.

Post shampooing:

My hair looked great. Curls were bouncing and I was curious as to what the conditioner had to offer.

Hair with conditioner:

Shrinkage mania. My hair ate the moisture up without a second thought.

The aftermath:

In some weird way my hair did feel nourished but more so stronger at that moment. I am unsure as to which ingredients achieved this.

So back to the checklist: Did it..

  1. Quench dryness? I would give that a 7/10 upon drying
  2. Hair shaft strengthened? For that moment yes and overall a 7/10 as well.
  3. Hair more manageable? In comparison to other products used, Not really, 4/10.
  4. Hair surface smoothed? 5.5/10
  5. Hair cuticles locked with nutrients? There was something there in he beginning but upon drying I personally don’t feel that it carried well with my hair so I give it a 5/10.

Overall? NBF 1 thumb up. It was ok, not a must on the list.

Have you ever tried Dove’s Advanced Hair Series line? How about Quench absolute in Particular? What were your thoughts?

Stay tuned. Stay curious. Be blessed.
